One of the best things about Brazil is discovering just how amazing rice and beans can taste. This Brazilian classic is a firm favorite with our guests and for good reason. Not only does it taste delicious (especially with Adriana’s mango salsa on the side) the combination of rice and beans provides a complete source of vegetarian protein. A largely vegetarian diet has been shown to be best for our health and the combination of these two foods ensures you are getting all the amino acids you need to build strong sexy toned muscles! It’s now known that you don’t have to eat complementing proteins at the same meal to enjoy the benefits (the body stores them so eating in the same day is just as good). But we wouldn’t have this meal any other way!
Here is how you can create this classic at home (serves 6-8).
For the beans you will need…
500g black beans
6 cloves of Garlic
Salt & pepper to taste
Soak beans overnight unless you are using a pressure cooker. Cover the desired quantity of beans with water and cook until they are soft. Sauté the garlic and seasoning separately and add a little of the beans and their cooking liquid to the pan. Mix this tasty sauce to the rests of the cooked beans.
… and then the amazing Mango and Tomato salsa
1 diced mango
2 diced tomatoes
1 small chopped onion
2 table spoon of olive oil juice of 1 lime
½ cup of chopped parsley and green onion
Add some Celtic salt to taste
Mix all ingredients together in a big bowl – easy.
Prepare some rice and then dinner is ready! Yum!
